BACK STORY:
Mongo Sidekick is a Border Collie-Mix Service Dog whose Human served in the USAF as a Security Police Military Working Dog Handler and Detector Dog Trainer. She trained dogs professionally for over 40 years. MONGO was raised and trained by his handler; they also trained with SAVING GRACE K9s in Lexington, NC, a non-profit Service Dog Program that works with veterans.

Veteran Vic Melville (RIP) works with rescue dog, Bella, at Lowe's during a group session.

Mongo & BA are sitting here hanging out with SD MERRELL, a service dog owned by Lisa Rose who got her dog from CANINE ASSISTANTS in GA.
COMANCHE joined our pack in 2020. He and MONGO also work with Veterans/First Responders whom have Service Dogs in Training. Both dogs run with DOGS on DUTY Service Dog SUPPORT GROUP across several states. They "volunteer" to help with SOCIALIZATION for working dogs in training.

Comanche, Mongo and their handler help promote other Service Dog Training programs and encourage other dog teams to work on PUBLIC ACCESS PROTOCOL. Utilizing the AKC Canine Good Citizen platform; Beth Angel is an AKC Evaluator. The three levels: CGC, COMMUNITY CANINE & URBAN CANINE are evaluations each dog team must pass. SDITs must learn PAT skills and standards set by ADI & IAADP.

OUR PACK meets to work on social skills, host WalkAbouts and Meet-N-Greets at Dog-Friendly places. We train at Public Events and attend IRREVERENT WARRIORS Silkies Hikes all across the US. We sponsor TRAINING ROADTRIPS to include Public Transportation Training and different kinds of exposure to new environments. Doing a 2-3 day event with another dog team translates to 24/7 training as we share quarters, rides, meals and roll out for the hike together.

Comanche& BA have 55+ Irreverent Warriors Silkies Hikes together since this Veteran in Crisis rescue came aboard. They travel and train with other teams attending these veteran events held in many states.

ALL OVER ROVER Co-Laboring Canines are the pack get togethers where we meet to do remedial training, socialization, task training and Public Access practice. These can be malls, big box stores, thrift stores, parks, zoos, post offices, taverns, outdoor events like Bike Nights and outdoor music events.

Tractor Supply, Lowes Hardware and Home Depot are regular training places as they are dog-friendly. This provides Service Dog Teams in Training an opportunity to work on socialization with exposure to loud noises, humans of all flavors, distractions like other dogs, equipment and strange smells. Handlers must give their dogs Relief Breaks to prevent "accidents", as well as burn off extra energy or provide a play/rest break after the intensity of exposure to new stimulus. It's best to "break" your dog both before and after training in public places, in case the dog needs to go!
