Beth Angel & Mongo Sidekick
Former USAF MWD Handler/Trainer;
Professional Dog Trainer 25+ years
AKC Evaluator

DOGS on DUTY SUPPORT GROUP started when we came across other Service Dog Teams that needed encouragement, backup, remedial training or just other legitimate Dog Teams to run with. We started out with three teams in service and grew quickly to 13-15 Dog Teams in Training. Our Pack is steadily growing!

It was important to establish SDIT protocol early on, and we focused on setting high standards. The secret to our success is socialization; lots and lots of socialization. We strive to expose our dogs to different environments, distractions, and anything we may encounter in our daily travels. We use dog-friendly places, public events, and frequent local businesses that support our mission.

Dog Training is Not Rocket Science. Using Basic Dog Behavioral Tendencies and staying consistent with commands and expectations is important. We learn to TRUST our Dogs, understanding that IT RUNS DOWN LEASH. If a Handler is hesitant, the dog will pick it up and become hesitant as well. Basic Obedience and a tried and true platform set up by the AKC simplifies the training agenda. We evaluate the Teams on three levels but are not testing PAT at present. However, our dogs learn the Public Access Skills and log in a minimum of 250 hours of real training. (Dr's referral validating the need for a Service Dog is required.)
BA's Backstory
Go Dog, GO!  It Runs Down Leash!
Beth Angel served as a Security Police Military working Dog handler/trainer. She worked Sentry and Detector Dogs and served in Korea with Military Customs, utilizing a Drug Dog.

As a civilian, she worked several years as the trainer at a No Kill Dog Rescue in Sarasota, FL. She also trained independently and taught classes at a local boarding and training facility. She began working with special needs clients training wheelchair assist, Parkinson's and Therapy Dogs. By using TDI evaluated Therapy Dogs in a local Special Needs school, they were able to rehome many dogs because of the additional training.

During her season of training, BA re-homed many dogs brought into her house, as she reconditioned and trained them after abuse or neglect. For several years, she "hung up the leash" in favor of FT Ministry. After some health issues, BA attempted to get a Service dog through the VA. Facing an immediate need for backup, she chose to train a young dog suited for the work. After several months of conditioning, she worked with a non-profit
SD training program for Veterans to validate the dog's abilities to perform.

MONGO SIDEKICK, often described as a "Quaalude on a Leash" has been officially ON DUTY since 2016. He has become the DOGS on DUTY SUPPORT GROUP PapaDog, often keeping the younger, rowdy dogs in line. Mongo is a frequent flyer, train rider, bus hopper and ALL AROUND GROOVY dog, nicknamed "ALL OVER ROVER".

Supporting the SERVICE DOG MISSION, Beth Angel organized a local event, Go Dog, GO!. This COMMUNITY RALLY is held at COX HARLEY DAVIDSON in Asheboro, NC. It is a POKER RUN & CLASSIC CAR CRUISE IN sponsoring local Vendors, Dog Rescues and Shelters. We invite Veteran Organizations, like AMVETS POST 905, to run Concessions. The event is held to ENCOURAGE and SUPPORT VETERANS and their families and to RAISE AWARENESS for SERVICE DOGS. This year our Third Annual Go Dog, GO! POKER RUN &
CLASSIC CAR CRUISE in will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
